NEW for the Summer of 2026! Introducing: The Egrets! 🆕
Nature wonder doesn’t end with elementary school—
It’s a lifelong adventure—
and we’ve designed this new summer age group to keep your middle grader exploring, wondering, and thriving all summer long.
We have the Sparrows, Robins, Sparrow-Robins, Hawks, and now—The Egrets!
~~~~~ The Egrets class for Summer 2026 is open to all kiddos entering 5th through 8th grade in September 2026 ~~~~~
The Egrets group is an urban wildlife & nature adventuring camp for middle graders with Brooklyn Nature Days.
Welcome to summer 2026 with Brooklyn Nature Days! We’re excited to announce a new age group offering for the Summer 2026 session. With many of our long-time students aging out of our Hawks group, we have had families share with us their hope that their growing kiddos can continue to adventure and explire with us each summer. And since we’re awesome and we listen to you, we made it happen! Help US make it happen by sharing your 5th-8th grader with us this summer!
Plans for this age group are still being formulated in our high tech lab (please note this lab is actually a pile of mulch on the Peninsula where we are learning about composting with our year round kiddos, but we think magical things happen in a compost pile) and we would love to hear from you about what your kiddo is most interested in.
Since Brooklyn Nature Days is child-led, teacher-supported, we want to hear from your kiddo about their interests and how we can support and further those interests with them in the Egrets group this summer.
Some ideas we’re working on in our lab are:
🌿 Foraging & identifying edible plants / mushrooms (we will be identifying, not eating mushrooms)
🌿 Map-making & compass skills / orienteering / geocaching
🌿 Earth art with clay / paint / yarn crafts
🌿 First aid & wilderness survival skills
🌿 Birdwatching / urban wildlife identification & care
🌿 Stream study & pH testing
🌿 Tree & plant identification / study
🌿 Hiking / meditation / mindfulness
…And more! We want to hear from you!
